Nepalese, Tibetan, the more common continental and Indian cuisines are common choices in the menu.

Leader(S) & Staff Arrangements
The most significant thing that makes this trek, enjoyable and memorable is the skilled, experienced, courteous and helpful leader(s) and the crew members with the ability of operating our days on the mountain smoothly. Our trip will be led by the best and most professional leaders. All of Bharal Adventure's leaders are carefully selected on the basis of their appropriate experience, leadership skills and personal aptitude. With an objective of sustaining local communities, Bharal Adventure only employs local staff who have adequate knowledge about culture, ecosystem, flora, fauna, geography, and history of their local region(s). The trek and expedition leaders have undergone the following trainings:

  • Intensive Wilderness First Aid
  • Trekking Guide Training
  • Eco Trekking Workshop and Adventure Meet
  • English Language
  • Conservation and Biodiversity
Rock climbing, Ice Climbing and Mountaineering (for expedition leaders)

Porter Care
Though often overlooked, it's no exaggeration to say the entire trekking and expedition industry in Nepal is built on the back of hard-working local porters. It is their tireless efforts carrying supplies, equipment and baggage that make journeying to these remote areas possible. Therefore, we are firmly committed to porter rights. We make sure that all our porters are well treated, well paid and we provide the level of shelter, clothing and footwear that these harsh environments demand. Porters who become sick are treated with the same care and attention as other team members and we have previously used helicopters - at our expense - to rescue porters from dangerous situations. We support the work of the International Porter Protection Group (IPPG), making our resources available to them to help improve the working conditions of the porters. (International Porters Progress Group

Environmental Concerns
The Everest Region is stunningly beautiful, but equally fragile. Future generations have just as much of a right to appreciate it as much as we do.  Therefore, we believe that the tourism industry has an obligation to protect and preserve it. Bharal Adventure employs a 'zero impact' policy on the natural environment and the traditional communities that live there. Bharal Adventure, therefore, enforces a number of do's and don'ts. Please talk to your trek leader to avoid environmental impacts.

Travel Insurance
It is a condition upon joining any of Bharal Adventure's trips that all clients be insured for comprehensive expenses that might incur due to medical issues or accidents (this includes air ambulance, helicopter rescue, and treatment costs). Please note that we don't arrange or sell insurance.

Acclimatization
This trek’s itinerary is planned with a high degree of awareness of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). Experts agree that gaining elevation without proper consideration of AMS could be fatal. The higher the altitude, the less oxygen will be in the air. Therefore, our body needs time to adapt to an environment with less oxygen. During this trip, we take rest in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche which will help us acclimatize to the high altitude thus resulting in a successful trip.

Physical Condition & Experience Requirements
Everest Base Camp Trek is a moderate trek. Travelers who can walk up to 6-7 hours a day on an uphill and downhill trail will find this trek fulfilling. It is best that we prepare ourselves for the Everest trek by jogging and exercising regularly at least a month prior to the start of the trek. Trekking to the Everest Base Camp should be relatively easier for those who have experience walking/trekking in a high altitude environment. Past hiking experience would be an asset but no technical skill is required for this trip. It is also important that we consult our doctor. Participants with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart, lung, and blood diseases should inform Bharal Adventure before booking the trek.

Best Time To Travel
The best time to trek to the Everest Base Camp is spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). The temperature is moderate in these seasons and guarantees amazing views through the trip. Although this trek can be undertaken during winter, the cold temperature might not be suitable for everyone.

Trip Itinerary

At your arrival in Kathmandu airport (Tribhuvan International Airport), you will be received by a representative of Bharal Adventure who will escort you to your hotel. In the afternoon, you will be given the briefing on last-minute specifics about your trek and in the evening, a welcome dinner will be hosted by Bharal Adventure to introduce you to authentic Nepali cuisine.

An early morning flight from Kathmandu rewarded by breathtaking views of green and white mountains takes the team to the gateway destination, Lukla from where the trek begins. After assembling other crew members (your guide and porter) in Lukla, the convoy shall commemorate their trek through the prosperous village of Lukla to Phakding following the bank of Dudhkoshi River.

After breakfast, a pleasant walk through Dudh Koshi River rewarded with the magnificent view of Mt. Thamserku (6,608m/21,675 ft) at Benkar village begins. Passing through the villages, trails, and bridges take the team to the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park at Monjo. Descending from there to Jorsale village, the team starts the climb to Namche Bazaar as they arrive at Hillary Suspension Bridge. The mystifying sights of Kwangde Peak, its sister peaks Kusum Kangaru, Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Tawache and many other enchanting snowcapped mountains compels the convoy to take a break at Chautara and admire the spectacle. An hour walks further and the team reaches Namche Bazaar, the colorful city and main trading center of the region.

Either a day’s hike to Thame or Khunde villages or exploration of Namche Bazaar could be made for acclimatization. It is the major trading center of the region that has restaurants, ATMs, a bakery and colorful market each Friday evening and Saturday. A visit to Tourist Visitor Center near the Sagarmatha National Park headquarters along with a side trip to Khumjung Valley shall be arranged. After sightseeing and having lunch, the team walks back down to Namche Bazaar. Another optional two-hour hike to Everest View Point is also available.

Enjoying the marvelous views of Mt. Everest, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Ama Dablam and close up view of Thamserku, the Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche comes to an end. The team treks towards Pangboche and then descends to Kayangjuma. After passing through Sansa, the major trail junction to Gokyo Valley and Everest Base Camp, the team disembarks at Phunki Thenga for lunch and rest. It requires a short tough climb from here to Tengboche. Lunch is provided at Phunki Thenga.

The day begins with the flawless view of the monastery at Tengboche with the mountains at its backdrop. The team will take the upper trail to Pangboche village passing through a number of Chortens and Mani walls and small hamlets. The afternoon will be made blissful with a walk north to Pheriche or eastward trail beneath the towering north face of Mt. Ama Dablam. A moderate walk to Imja Valley, descending through the confluence of the Lobuche River followed by the steepest climb of the day takes the team to Dingboche.

The trek becomes more challenging from this day forth because of the higher altitude. We come to Dungla passing through a tough, steep walk to the top of a high hill and explore the memorial stupas dedicated to the climbers and trekkers who lost their lives to the Everest over the years. From here, we move over craggy mountain terrain to Lobuche, a small settlement that offers magnificent views of the Mt. Lobuche, Mt. Pumori, and the Nuptse. Before you go to bed, be prepared for a chilling night.

This is the big day of the entire expedition, the day we will reach the base camp of the highest peak of the world, Mount Everest. The trail to Gorak Shep goes through the lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier conveyed with the revelation of Mt. Everest, Mt. Pumori, Mt. Mahalangur, Mt. Lingtern and much more. A small ascend to Thangma Riju with the further steep climb through the torrent of Changri Glacier takes us to Gorak Shep. A quick lunch and rest enable us to trek along the trail to Everest Base Camp through the once immense Gorak Shep Lake.

The several hour's ascents to Kala Patthar set off before the first daylight breaks. Upon the return to Gorak Shep, breakfast is served. The team visiting Kalapatther on this day will have the early start to their hike and then have breakfast. After the return of both teams, lunch shall be served at Gorak Shep we will be traveling to Kathmandu by Helicopter. It would be fun. We will get the chance to watch amazing and beautiful views of the Himalayas and the hills and many other mountains while traveling by helicopter.

The journey of a lifetime along the Himalayas comes to an end on this day. The guests are accompanied to the airport by one of the representatives of Bharal Adventure approximately three hours before their scheduled flight takes off.
