To promote tourism and develop Nepal a hub for tourists, the Government of Nepal has launched a campaign of Visit Nepal Year, 2020. Under this campaign, it has been carrying out various promotional and other activities to make it a huge success.

Nepal has an ambitious goal of bringing in two million tourists by 2020 and achieving its expenditure of over $ 75 each on a daily basis. Nepal also plans to support its economy through tourism by generating as high as revenues.

The Government of Nepal believes that tourism is the only strong way to reduce the poverty rate in Nepal and boost the lifestyle of the people here. So it has put forward various schemes to promote tourism of the country by attracting as many tourists. The Visit Nepal Year, 2020 is one of them in this regard.

Nepal Tourism Year 2020 Has The Following Aims:

• Boost the country’s economy and support the livelihood of the people of the country by engaging them in the tourism sector and by generating revenue from tourism.
• Expose unexplored places of the country to the world through tourism.
• Expand and develop tourism to the mainstream of the country’s socio-economic development.
• Attract investment in the country.
• Enhance aviation safety and security, expand air and road connectivity.
• Develop and expand tourism products like new trekking routes, and boost domestic trade by helping domestic products like handicrafts get the international market through tourism.
• Promote tourism awareness throughout the country to engage local communities and develop new tourism areas as identified by concerned institutions in response to the market.
• Advance competitiveness in the tourism sector through regulatory reforms, investment, infrastructure development, innovation, new product offerings, and environment and wildlife conservation and greater efficiencies and excellence in service standards with the aim to develop the tourism industry as a key economic development strategy of the country.

The National Tourism Strategic Plan 2016-2025 has set 11 specific action plans for the overall development of tourism

These plans include marketing target, tourism economy, focused programs, and development target, branding target, human resource development, improvement of business investment target, improvement of tourism quality, reforms in institution and management, infrastructure development target, zero carbon emission target, and conservation of cultural heritage.

Climate Change

Climate is the most burning issue around the globe. Many awareness programs and campaigns are being carried out in the world in a bid to decrease the effects of climate change. • The government has announced the promotion of hundred new tourist destinations from 2019 with at least ten of them being in each state.
• Repair and construction of airports in the country are in full swing to provide good air service for tourists
• It has also a plan to construct at least one airport in each state.
• Representatives from many states went to neighboring countries to create awareness about the Visit Nepal Year and various promotional programs like roadshows were held in a foreign land and across the border with India.
• PATA Nepal Chapter and Nepal Airlines Corporation organized the forty-first Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Travel Mart 2018 (PTM2018) in Malaysia from September 12 to 14, 2018.
