An exciting trek into the Himalayas, Tamang Heritage Trek gives you the chance to explore the untouched village of Langtang where you can get firsthand experience of an everyday life of Tamang people along with the charismatic views of the Himalayas, glaciers, ridges, streams, rivers, green pastoral lands, and forests. The journey of this cultural trekking in Nepal is conducted in the vicinity of Langtang Gosainkunda Helambu Trek trail of Nepal.

This trek offers you an excellent opportunity to explore and observe ethnic Tamang culture and tradition which is similar to and influenced by Tibetan culture, the culture of the Himalayan people. You also get a chance to indulge into the mouthwatering taste of the variety of ethnic delicacies found in the different regions of Nepal. The village of Biddim and other major Tamang settlement is best to observe the rituals and traditions of this indigenous group of people. Tamang Heritage Trek has its own vibrancy in terms of culture and nature.

The fourteen-day trip begins with the exploration of the cultural, spiritual and historical landmarks in Kathmandu which have also been listed under the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. A drive will take the team to Syabrubesi from where actual trek of the journey begins through the rough mountain terrain passing through the forests, gorgeous hamlets, Chortens and Mani walls into the wonderful Tamang village living in close vicinity to the mighty Langtang Himal. The memorial Chortens are the symbol of the spirituality in them. Apart from the cultural delights the journey to gives you the amazing Himalayas view. The mountains like Langtang Lirung, Sishpangma, Ganjala Pass Peak, Gauri Shankar Mountain other Himalayan mountain range along with the hilly geographical landscape can be experienced.

Detail Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu [1,300m/4,264 ft]
The representatives from Bharal Adventure will pick up the guests from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu and drop them at their hotel for rest. An afternoon stroll and souvenir shopping around the streets of Thamel will be arranged. The guests will be served delicious Nepali cuisine as welcome dinner by Bharal Adventure.
Day 02: Sightseeing and Trek Preparation in Kathmandu
After breakfast, the guests are taken to a guided tour to the UNESCO world heritage sites in Kathmandu which includes the Durbar Square, Pashupatinath Temple, the Monkey Temple – Swayambhunath, and Boudhanath. A pre-trip discussion will be organized at noon allowing the guests interact with their trek leader and team members.
Day 03: Kathmandu – Syabrubesi [1,550m/5,100 ft]: 145km, 7 hrs
Drive along the north western hills of Kathmandu will begin after early morning breakfast. Lunch will be served at Trishuli Bazaar before continuing further drive to Dhunche from where we descend down to Syabrubesi.
Day 04: Syabrubesi – Gatlang [2,200m/7,217 ft]: 5 hrs
This is the day we start our actual trek hiking across the Goljung Village enjoying the views of the Ganesh Himal, Shishapangma, Langtang Lirung and others until we reach Gatlang, a small village on the hillside with traditional stone houses.
Day 05: Gatlang – Tatopani [2,607m/8,550 ft]: 6 – 7 hrs
Descending down to Thangbuche soaking in the magnificent views of the Ganesh Himal and Langtang Ranges along the way, we pass by the Chilime Hydropower dam and then ascend up to Tatopani, literally meaning ‘hot water’, the place name owing to the natural hot springs there. However, because of the earthquake of April 2015, there are no longer any hot springs.
Day 06: Tatopani – Thuman [2,400m/7,874 ft] via Brimdang and Nagthali: 6 hrs
Passing through the dense alpine forest, we come to the small Tamang settlement called Brimdang from where a few hours walk uphill will take us to Nagthali hill that blesses us with the breathtaking views of Langtang, Sanjen, Kerung and Ganesh Himal. Few hours trek downhill and we arrive at Thuman, a small Tamang village where we will spend the night.
Day 07: Thuman – Briddim [2,345m/7,693 ft]: 6 hrs
We trek down to the Tibetan Buddhist village called Briddim from Thuman via the route of Lingling. The village is located at the lap of Langtang Himal and accommodates the Dukchu Gomba monastery and the stone houses inhabited mostly by people of Tibetan origin.
Day 08: Briddim – Lama Hotel [2470m]: 6 hrs
Descending down the trail to Ghopche Khola and ascending up to Rimche from where few hours uphill trek will take us to Lama Hotel, located on the banks of the Langtang River surrounded by lush forests with mountain in the background.
Day 09: Lama Hotel – Langtang village [3,430m/11,253 ft]: 6 – 7 hrs
We commence our trek to Langtang Village as soon as we finish our breakfast. Passing through the dense forests and climbing up steadily through the valley, we pass by water mills, prayer wheels and Chortens as we move forth in the journey enjoying the fabulous views of the mountains until we arrive at Langtang village.
Day 10: Langtang village – Kyanjin Gompa [3,870m/12,697 ft]: 4 hrs
Walking through the yak pastures and passing along the largest Mani wall in Nepal, we cross several wooden bridges before we reach Kanjin Gompa which is surrounded by the mighty Himalayas. We go on a walk around the Gompa enjoying the astonishing views of glaciers, icefalls, birds and yaks.
Day 11: Kyanjin Gompa – Lama Hotel [2,380m/7,830 ft]: 4 – 5 hrs
After breakfast, descend to Lama Hotel will begin as we walk down from Kyanjin Gompa following the trail along the river and passing through ethnic Tamang settlements. The Tamang people have religious and cultural practices similar to that of Tibetans.
Day 12: Lama Hotel – Syabrubesi: 5 hrs
An early morning breakfast will get us geared up for trek back from Lama Hotel to Syabrubesi going downhill along the lush green vegetation and terraced land. Lunch will be served at Syabrubesi.
Day 13: Syabrubesi – Kathmandu: 145kms, 7 hrs
We take the drive back to Kathmandu after having our breakfast. You will be escorted to your hotel where you could spend the day either leisurely or go for some last minute shopping or sightseeing around the places you missed during your first day excursion in Kathmandu. A celebratory dinner will be hosted in the evening to mark the successful completion of the expedition.
Day 14: Final Departure
On this day, you will be saying your goodbyes to the team and participants you lived your Himalayan experience with. After having breakfast and exchanging emails, photos and pleasantries, a representative from Bharal Adventure will take you to the airport approximately three hours before your scheduled flight.

The following are what we advise you obtain in the way of equipment and gear before trekking in Nepal, and are meant to keep you mobile and comfortable in a range of expected weather conditions. Trekking gear can be rented or purchased in Kathmandu at cheaper prices, remember Nepal is the home of Mount Everest, there is plenty of choices and our staff can assist you with the necessary arrangements. Except for your day pack, all luggage will be carried by porters. There is an allowance of 33lbs/15kg per person. Additional personal items not needed for the trekking portion of the trip can be checked in the hotel’s storage room for no extra cost.
