About Mardi Himal Trek

Mardi Himal Trek is a good alternative to the crowded treks of Annapurna. Mardi Himal Trek offers you the stunning views of the Himalayas within the short duration of time. It is also a relatively new trekking route in Annapurna region which is peaceful since there aren’t many trekkers who know about this route. This trekking route offers the eastern view of the magnificent Annapurna Mountain. Annapurna Base Camp Trek is an outstanding journey to Foothill of world’s 10th tallest mountain in the world. Mardi Himal Trek journey offers a better view of Annapurna Sanctuary from the top.

Between two popular treks  Annapurna Base Camp Trek and Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek, Mardi Himal Trek is sandwiched. Detail Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu [1,300m/4,264 ft]

A representative from Bharal Adventure will pick up the guests at the airport and escort them to their hotel. They will be explained about the program for their journey, however, no activities are planned for the day. Nevertheless, an evening stroll could be arranged if the guests show an interest.

Day 02: Kathmandu to Pokhara [910m/2,985 ft]: 6 hrs

Soon after breakfast, the group will set off on a long scenic drive to Pokhara, the second largest city of Nepal. Two stops will be made on the way for snacks and lunch. After checking in to the hotel and taking rest, leisure boating on the picturesque Fewa Lake will be arranged for making the evening pleasant.

Day 03: Drive to Kande and trek to Forest Camp [2,540m]: 8 – 9 hrs

After having our breakfast, we head on the drive to Kande, a village on top of a hill near Pokhara which offers magnificent views of the Himalayas. We start our trek to Pothana from here following the trail through various small hamlets. We continue further to Pitam Deurali where we stop for lunch and after lunch, we head on to Forest Camp following the trail through oak, maple, hemlock and rhododendron forests. Forest Camp is known as Kokar among the local people. The walk to here from Pitam Deurali is quite difficult and requires physical fitness among the travelers.

Day 04: Trek to Low Camp [3,035m]: 4 hrs

Walking inside the forest for a while will bring us to higher vegetation area with more rhododendron trees. The trail is steep at the beginning but as we move further, it changes into comparatively easier trail. After walking for few hours, we reach Low Camp from where we get the magnificent views of Macchapuchhre (Fishtail Mountain).

Day 05: Trek to High Camp [3,590m]: 4 hrs

Climbing up the route, we continue through grasslands of high region with occasional rhododendron trees along the path. We can spot Himalayan Monal, also known as Impeyan Monal and Impeyan Pheasant or Danphe birds. Danphe is the national bird of Nepal. Walking further, we arrive at High Camp where we will spend the night.

Day 06: Hike to Upper View Point [4,200m] and back to High Camp: 4 and half hrs

Before sunrise, we start our walk so that we can catch the first glimpse of golden rays of sun falling on the mighty Himalayas. After witnessing the enchanting sunrise, we head back to our lodge and have our breakfast. Then we rest for a while and start our hike up to the Upper View Point for witnessing the majestic views of the Himalayan peaks. We walk through a moderate trail passing across some narrow and steep routes.

Day 07: Trek to Landruk Village [1,560m]: 6 and half hrs

We trek to Landruk village, a huge village on the way to Annapurna Base Camp, on this day. As we descend, we come to a junction separating us between the trail heading to Low Camp on the left and Landruk on the right. From here, we take the trail on our right and descend further entering into the forest path until we reach Landruk village where we will stay overnight.

Day 08: Trek to Nayapul [1,070m] and drive to Pokhara: 7 hrs trek and 1 hr drive

Descending down to Modi Khola, we start walking on the next side and follow the flat trail all the way to Nayapul from crossing Birenthanti from where it takes about a thirty minutes walk to reach Nayapul. From Nayapul, we take an hour long drive to Pokhara.

Day 09: Pokhara to Kathmandu: 6hrs

A scenic drive from Pokhara will bring the team back to Kathmandu where the evening is spend either relaxing or shopping for souvenirs. You can also choose to fly to Kathmandu if you desire. A farewell dinner will be organized to commemorate the closer of the exciting journey.

Day 10: Farewell

This day marks the end of trek in the Annapurna region and the memorable journey amidst the Himalaya. A representative from Bharal Adventure will escort you to the airport approximately three hours before your scheduled flight.

Please use this checklist as a guideline for getting information on the required equipment to carry on a trekking. Adjustments could be made to the list according to your needs, interest and duration and season of the trip among other factors. Variety of these gears could be hired or bought in Kathmandu. Since the majority of these gears found in sale in Kathmandu are locally manufactured, they are a lot cheaper. Also some gears are imported from China which are of better quality.

If you have enough money, you can buy very high quality branded gears too, in some of the famous stores in Nepal. It is advised that you keep your luggage as light as possible. You extra luggage could be left back in your hotel inKathmandu which you can claim back at your return. We normally provide one porter for two trekkers to carry the luggage and the limitation of the weight is approximately 25 kg from two people.

General

  • Duffel or rucksack bag: Although Bharal Adventure will supply complimentary water and wind proof duffle/kit bag, one extra big duffel bag/suitcase is necessary for non-trek items that will be left at the hotel
  • Daypack of approximately 2500 to 3000 cubic inches
  • Down jacket (in case you don’t bring one, you can borrow one from Bharal Adventure which you have to return at completion of the trek)
  • 4 seasons’ sleeping bag (you can borrow one from Bharal Adventure if you forget to bring one, although it is strongly recommended for you to bring one)

Head

  • Sun hat or scarf
  • Light balaclava or warm fleece hat
  • Sunglasses with UV protection

Feet

  • Thin, lightweight inner socks
  • Thick, warm wool hiking socks
  • Hiking boots with spare laces
  • Camp shoes (sneakers and/or sandals)
  • Gaiters for hiking in winter

Hands

  • Lightweight gloves
  • Heavyweight gloves or mittens
  • With a waterproof shell outer

Lower body
